Positioned just inside the main entrance, the information desk serves as the first point of contact, helping patients navigate updated appointment processes and directing them efficiently to the correct location for their visit.
As patient flow and appointment scheduling have evolved, the information desk ensures these changes are clearly communicated — especially for community members who may not have visited the hospital in some time. By answering questions, providing clear directions and guiding patients to where they need to begin their appointment, the information desk helps eliminate unnecessary delays and supports on-time care.

What is your role at UP Health System?
I'm the patient navigator at the main lobby hospital information desk.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
We get a lot of people coming through our front door. For those unfamiliar with our processes, the information desk is located just a few steps inside the entrance. I'm often the first person a visitor sees, and I receive a wide range of questions from them. It's never boring.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I have enjoyed various roles since 2014, including patient registration, emergency admitting/switchboard, medical records and clinic patient services.
What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
The patient flow paths to appointed events have changed over the years. This is the information desks’ opportunity to communicate these changes and to direct our patients, ensuring the elimination of unnecessary wait times.
What do you enjoy most about working at UP Health System?
Assisting and interacting with all as they enter our facility while providing accurate direction is the focus of my day. The Information Desk is here for you!
