What is your role at UPHS?
I am a Certified Medical Assistant for the Heart and Vascular department at UP Health System – Marquette.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I started with fire services and took the emergency medical technician (EMT) class as part of my fire training and found that I enjoyed the medical side more. I went on to become a paramedic and worked in the field until a knee injury sidelined me.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
Working in this field is very busy. I usually lose track of time until someone tells me it's time to go home. However, it's worth it to ensure that our patients are getting the best experience we can provide.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I've been in this position for just over a year now.
What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
One of the differences with this position is caring for people with acute care versus caring for those with chronic care. Technological advances in healthcare have brought more computerized work into this field as well.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
Any quality time I can have with my wife, anything outdoors, long motorcycle rides and time with my dogs is meaningful to me.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?
I love the people I work with every day.
