What is your role at UP Health System – Marquette?

I am a Maintenance Specialist at UP Health System – Marquette.

What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?

Healthcare plays an integral role in any community—I am proud to be part of the team here and make a difference. 

What is a typical day like for you working in this field? 

Every day brings new challenges. I enjoy problem solving and helping to provide a safe, comfortable place for patients, staff and visitors. 

How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?

This is my 32nd year with UP Health System – Marquette. I started as a foreman doing equipment rounds before being promoted to maintenance mechanic. Recently, I was promoted to maintenance specialist. 

What are some of the significant changes you have experienced in this position?

It has been fun seeing and applying new technology in the plant operations field. It was very exciting being involved in the transition from the old facility to our brand-new facility in 2019.

What are some of your interests outside of work?

I enjoy the outdoors—kayaking, fishing, hiking, walking with the dogs, camping and spending time with family. My favorite is picking up my grand-pup, Arlo, every day for an adventure. 

What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS–Marquette?

I enjoy being part of a team that provides a great service to our community. I like the fact that I can work autonomously, taking ownership and being accountable in my position.
