UP Health System - Marquette Heroes | Cathy Erspamer

What is your role at UP Health System – Marquette?

I am the Patient Service Representative (PSR) Supervisor for UP Health System – Marquette | Family Medicine.

What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?

I took a health occupational class in high school and that sparked my interest.

What is a typical day like for you working in this field?

Marquette Family Medicine is one of the larger physician offices at UP Health System. I maintain 27 provider schedules and 18 office staff and we can see up to 150 patients per day.

How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?

I have been working for the hospital for 38 years. I started as a switchboard operator, then moved into a unit clerk position, followed by a family medicine clerk, and eventually into the supervisor role.

What are some of the significant changes you have experienced in this position?

Like many offices, COVID was a huge change to our practice. Trying to stay up-to-date on the latest guidance on how to continue to see patients in person — while keeping our staff safe and being able to care for patients — was a daily challenge.

What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?

I love to work out, and snowshoe with friends and my chocolate lab, Henry. I also love to crochet hats and participate in local craft shows. One of my favorite local gems is the Presque Isle Island.

What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?

Working with our family medicine team! We all take care of each other. They are my second family.
