What is your role at UPHS – Portage? 
I am the Marketing and Communications Coordinator for UP Health System – Portage and Bell. 

What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I have always been involved in sports throughout growing up and my college years, whether it was playing, coaching, or training and I thought a change of scenery would be good for me. So I took a step out of my comfort zone and earned a job in healthcare — and let me tell you, it was the best thing for me. Healthcare is eye-opening and each day is a blessing to work alongside some of the most amazing people to help improve the health of our community and being able to share their stories is what I enjoy most. 

What's a typical day like for you?
There is no typical day, which is what I love most about my job. You can find me working on a project in my office, onboarding new providers, walking around the facility to update signage, rack cards or brochures, recording videos and taking pictures, to laminating signs and so much more. I always say the laminator is my second home! 

How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?  
I have been employed here at UP Health System – Portage for a year and a half and I have loved every minute of it!

What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position? 
A big change that I had to learn and adapt to was healthcare. The different terms, specialties, providers and so much more were challenging to learn, but to this day, I continue to learn something new and that's what makes it exciting and rewarding. 

What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
Outside of work, I love to spend time outdoors and spending time with my family. My brother is currently playing junior hockey and we travel to watch him play quite a bit — there is nothing better than spending your time in a hockey rink, right? Besides the winters, during the summer, spending time on the water, boating, and being in the sun is a top favorite of mine. White city is the best local gem in the Upper Peninsula in my opinion. 

What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Portage?
We have the best team at UP Health System – Portage and everyone in our facility plays such an important role in caring for our patients and our community. I am thankful each and every day to be a part of this team!
