What is your role at UPHS – Marquette?

I’m an Operational Buyer in Materials Management at UP Health System – Marquette. 

What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?

I’ve always wanted to work in the healthcare field. Even though I don’t work in the direct care of the patients, the behind-the-scenes work is equally needed and rewarding. To see the patients and families appreciate your help is a feeling like no other. 

What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?

I don’t think there’s a typical day. Every day is different and can range from placing orders, completing paperwork, price comparisons, finding products, helping the team in bulk stores, and more. We stay busy and I truly enjoy it.  

How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?

I’ve been at our hospital for 23 years. I started in Dietary, Family Care, and Payroll and for the last 19 years, I have been in Purchasing.

What are some of the significant changes you have experienced in this position?

One of the biggest changes I have experienced was moving from the old hospital to the new hospital and the changes with our computer system. 

What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?

I enjoy being with my family. I love riding horses with my daughter, watching her at horse shows, kayaking, going to camp, grilling, and traveling. My local gem would be outdoors in the fresh air and watching the horses in the field. 

What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?

The team I work with — and knowing we work hard to make sure we have the supplies to take care of our patients.
