October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month – a great time to remind all women of the importance of scheduling their annual mammogram. 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer, making regular mammogram screenings essential. Breast health is important to us at UP Health System – that's why we offer advanced 3D mammography, which has proven to detect breast cancer detection by up to 40%, according to the American Cancer Society.  

What is 3D Mammography?

3D mammography is a type of digital mammography which uses advanced technology to take images of your breast from different angles and combine them to create a complete and more accurate image of your breast. A typical mammography test lasts 10-15 minutes and 4-5 seconds of breast compression between each picture.

When Should I get a Mammogram?

Women who are 40 years or older, are encouraged to talk with their primary care provider about scheduling their annual mammogram. This will allow the radiologist and providers to detect breast cancer earlier and help give you the peace of mind that comes with knowing and being prepared.
