What is your role at UPHS – Bell?
I am an X-ray Tech in the Radiology Department for UP Health System – Bell. 

What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I love being able to help people and be a comforting face and listening ear when people are sick, scared and anxious. I also enjoy the wide variety of skills needed and the constant learning that comes with my position. 

What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
There is a steady flow of patients that keep me moving and busy all day. I love the challenge every patient can bring — the critical thinking, friendly conversations and the heartfelt ones, too, are what I enjoy most about my job. I also will go to the OR for imaging, ER, outpatients and CT.  

How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position? 
I have been working here in this position for four months. Previously, I was working at UPHS – Marquette. 

What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position? 
It's been a challenge the last few years working in healthcare with the fear of the pandemic and the unknown, but I still enjoyed coming to work. During my career, I've been part of a hospital move, learning all new equipment, and now I'm learning new protocols that differ from what I was used to. I am also learning the CT and Dexa scan. 

What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem? 
I love anything outdoors! Hiking, biking, running, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snow biking. I love hanging out with all my animals. My German Shepherd puppy loves partaking in my outdoor activities with me. My husband, daughter and I all love traveling to new places and trying all the different food and local culture!  My favorite local gem is the hidden beaches and hikes along Lake Superior!

What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Bell?
All the staff! My coworkers make coming to work enjoyable and are very helpful and kind!
