UPHS – Portage Heroes | Stefanie Maatta, Adc
February 21, 2022
Stefanie Maatta, is the Activities Coordinator for PortagePointe.
What is your role at UPHS-Portage?
I am the Activity Coordinator at PortagePointe.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
My inspiration for getting into healthcare is my family. My sister inspired me to get a job in healthcare, where I switched positions a couple of times and realized I enjoy interacting with the residents and getting to know them, I have been in this particular field for 7 years.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
A typical day is completing assessments for current and new elders, attending meetings, developing an activity program, creating and maintaining care plans for each elder, supervising, assisting, preparing my team, and spending quality time with my elders. No day is the same working in this field, they are ever-changing and that is what I enjoy about it!
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I have been employed here for 8 months and have been in the same position.
What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
The biggest change I have experienced is the impact COVID has played in the last 2 years. Between the changing regulations and guidelines, to having to take planned activities and change them to accommodate when we are unable to have groups.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
Some of my interests are spending time with my fiancé, family, and friends. I enjoy taking road trips, spending time outdoors (SxS riding, kayaking, camping), and creating projects with my Cricut. I do not have a favorite gem as I enjoy exploring many local gems!
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Portage?
I enjoy the atmosphere and my coworkers. I think we have a great team here, and everyone gets along so well and helps one another out.
