UPHS – Marquette Heroes | Breann Ackerly, RN
July 31, 2020
What is your official title?
Registered Nurse for the Patient Cardiac Unit.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I wanted to help care of my community. I enjoyed the sciences of it when I was in school, so it seemed like a perfect fit. Since elementary school, I wanted to be a doctor and then I discovered that nursing was the best field for me with direct patient care, and I went from there.
I enjoy taking the time to teach patients and their procedures; and when they can see results right away because of the work they do and how much better they feel post-procedure. That’s always rewarding as a nurse.
What is a typical day like for you?
We usually start with our first patient at 6:15 a.m. and start admitting each patient an hour apart, and then start recovery in the late morning, early afternoon.
What are some of your interests outside of work?
I enjoy walking, biking, and playing with my kids.
What is your favorite part about working at UPHS – Marquette?
I love working with my co-workers. We have a really great team, and that makes a huge difference.
