UPHS – Marquette Heroes: Allison Kirchner
April 17, 2020
What’s your official title?
I’m a Registration Specialist
How did you come into this role?
I actually was working at Menard’s previously and was looking for something in the healthcare realm. The registration specialist position was open and I was hired. I love my job. It’s busy all day, every day.
What’s a typical day like for you?
We come in at 6 a.m. and guide people who are needing help finding something and we register patients. We also do wayfinding and help our patients with anything they need. They may say, ‘Hey, I have no idea what I’m here for. Can you help me?” And then we also find orders for people as well.
What’s it like working here at the new hospital at registration compared to the old facility?
It’s pretty awesome. We were hired into work at the new hospital and then worked two months to train before the move.
It’s definitely different because with the old registration area, we didn’t really see anyone in person, so the first week here, it was definitely a big step, but it’s awesome and a lot better seeing people and helping them face-to-face.
What are some of your interests outside of work?
I like to hike with my dogs a lot. I also like to drive and see the beautiful places up here. I’m from Ohio and I’ve been here for about seven years and it’s just awesome.
What is your favorite part about working at UPHS – Marquette?
This entire department is awesome and we all work together. Everyone who walks by always has a smile on their face. Here, everyone smiles back and that’s a great feeling. This is a really personable atmosphere here and it’s amazing.
