UPHS – Marquette Heroes | Payton Lebombard, RN
October 03, 2025
What is your role at UPHS – Marquette?
I am a clinical informaticist at UPHS – Marquette.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I've always known I wanted to pursue a healthcare career. Initially, I planned to become a respiratory therapist, but once I started college, I shifted my focus to nursing and never looked back.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
I usually start my day by checking emails and going over my meeting schedule. Throughout the day, I am supporting staff with training or troubleshooting. I also work closely with others in IT and clinical teams to improve documentation and streamline processes. My role is all about using data and technology to enhance patient care and make healthcare delivery more efficient.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I’ve been with UPHS for 10 years. I started as a contingent care aide in the psychiatric unit, earned my RN in 2019, and worked in the staffing pool. From there, I returned to the psych unit as a nurse and later became the manager. Most recently, I transitioned into the information technology (IT) department as a clinical informaticist.
What are some of the big changes you've experienced in this position?
One of the biggest changes was the transition from Paragon to Cerner. However, the most impactful shift was starting my nursing career just two months before the COVID-19 pandemic. It required me to adapt quickly and learn how to provide high-quality patient care during an incredibly challenging and uncertain time.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
Over the past year, I’ve gotten into golfing; it's become my weekend passion and I’m always trying to improve with each round. As someone who grew up in Marquette, I consider the entire city a gem. One of my favorite spots is the Powder Mill Disc Golf Course.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?
The people I work with. My coworkers have played a huge role in shaping me into the nurse I am today, and their support and camaraderie have made all the difference.
