What is your role at UPHS – Marquette?
I am a regional director of Specialty Services at UP Health System – Marquette.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I’ve always been fascinated by the human body and its incredible capabilities. From an early age, I knew I wanted to be involved in a field where I could make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. That passion continues to drive my commitment to supporting others through healthcare.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
In a typical day, I oversee operations across 11 clinics, which requires me to stay highly engaged and on the move. My role involves supporting both providers and staff in their day-to-day operations, while also identifying opportunities for growth and continuous improvement. I work closely with clinic managers and supervisors to enhance patient access, optimize turnaround times, and ensure a high standard of care. Additionally, I collaborate with our recruitment team to attract and retain talented physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants, meeting the evolving needs of our communities.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I have been with the healthcare system for 27 years, the first 23 were at UPHS Bell. I shared my role with UPHS – Bell and Marquette for three years, and I have been here at UPHS – Marquette for a year.
What are some of the big changes you've experienced in this position?
I began my career at the former Bell Hospital and had the unique opportunity to be part of the transition to the new facility. I was also involved in the shift to LifePoint Health, which began with a year of extensive data gathering and preparation. However, the most significant changes came with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which brought rapid and unprecedented challenges — with operational updates occurring by the hour. It was a transformative period that tested our adaptability and resilience in ways none of us could have anticipated.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
Outside of work, I enjoy spending quality time with my husband, Jeff, and our three daughters. We feel fortunate to raise our family in such a close-knit and beautiful community. When I’m not attending one of the girls’ activities, I love to unwind at our camp in Republic—enjoying time on the lake with paddleboards, campfires, and friends. One of my favorite local spots is Congress Pizza in Ishpeming, where you can always count on great pizza, good company, and a warm welcome.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?
As I’ve grown in my career, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside some of the most talented healthcare professionals in the Upper Peninsula. I deeply value the contributions of every role—from front-line staff to behind-the-scenes support—and I’m continuously driven to learn and gain a deeper understanding of how each piece contributes to the whole.
