UP Health System – Bell Expands Access to Specialty Care for Patients

ISHPEMING, Mich. (Aug. 6, 2025) — UP Health System – Bell (UPHS – Bell) is enhancing specialty care access for patients in the community by now offering gastroenterology services on-site through a new telemedicine clinic with Henry Ford Health. This expansion allows patients to receive specialty care locally, reducing the need for travel while staying connected to a full range of diagnostic and follow-up services, all supported by their trusted care team at UPHS – Bell.

Patients can schedule appointments for gastroenterology evaluations in the Specialty Clinic at UPHS – Bell, Suite 210. During their visit, patients will meet with Bell’s local clinical support staff while consulting virtually with a gastroenterology specialist. This model ensures continuity of care, as all follow-up testing and most related services are completed at Bell.

Gastroenterology focuses on conditions affecting the digestive system, including the stomach, intestines, liver and pancreas. Services now available at Bell include advanced procedures such as therapeutic endoscopy to treat digestive tract issues; care for inflammatory bowel diseases like Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis (including access to clinical trials); and support for liver conditions through hepatology. The clinic also addresses gastroparesis, a condition that affects how the stomach empties, managed in collaboration with general surgery, and offers evaluation of GI motility disorders, which involve how food moves through the digestive system.

Appointments are available and referrals are now being accepted. The clinic will begin by operating every other week, with plans to expand based on patient needs. While the specialist consult is delivered virtually, Bell’s dedicated care team coordinates all aspects of the patient’s experience from scheduling and testing to billing and follow-up.

This partnership uses secure telemedicine technology and a shared commitment to quality care to make specialty services more accessible and convenient for patients.
