Up Health System | Portage Heroes: John Dube, Rn – Perioperative Services Coordinator

What is your title and role at UPHS-Portage? My title is Perioperative Services Care Coordinator, In my role I coordinate the Care for our patients In the OR, ACU and, PACU.

How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position? I have been employed here about 3 years now. I started out as a Med Surg/ICU RN, switched to Emergency Department and then went to the OR. I spent about a year in each position and just started my new role as Care Coordinator in March. 

What motivates you in your position? I want to ensure that we give the best care possible for our patients and create a great work environment for our employees.

Tell us a little bit about your family: I have been with my wife Lucia for 9 years and we will be married for 5 years in June. We are excited to be expecting our first child in October.

What sorts of things do you like to do in you spare time? I love to go fishing so I go as much as possible in my free time. I enjoy sports so I play a lot of basketball and baseball as well. Also, my wife and I enjoy going on hikes or for walks together.

What did you want to be when growing up? Well I always wanted to play baseball when I was little and when I got into high school I wanted to go to be an orthopedic surgeon.

What is your favorite part about working for UPHS-Portage? I would say the work environment. I am blessed to work with lots of great people who are always helping each other out and work hard to give the best care to our patients.
