What is your role at UPHS – Marquette?
I am a Volunteer at the information desk at UP Health System – Marquette.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I once drove the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Van that transported local veterans to their medical appointments, and that inspired me to volunteer more in healthcare. I enjoy doing my part to help people in need of medical care.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
I staff the information desk, answer questions and direct patients, and also transport patients in wheelchairs to where they need to go. I meet lots of people every day.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I have volunteered with the hospital for about 20 years. I also worked at the information desk in the skywalk at the old hospital before I worked at the main information desk at the new hospital location.
What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
Some big changes are learning the new changes in technology and new specialties that patients are looking for over the years.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
I love traveling to visit family. My local gems are Presque Isle, Forest Lake, and the Au Train basin.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?
I enjoy meeting people and helping others where I can.
