What is your role at UPHS – Marquette?
I am a nurse practitioner with electrophysiology at UP Heart & Vascular.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
Helping people and caring for others fills my bucket. I can’t imagine doing anything else.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
I work in the outpatient cardiology office, seeing patients with cardiac rhythm issues and implantable cardiac devices like pacemakers. It's busy and interesting, keeping me on my toes.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I worked as an ICU nurse at UPHS – Marquette from 2012 to 2020. I then spent three years as an NP at the Iron Mountain VA. I started my job in cardiology in August 2023.
What are some of the big changes you've experienced in this position?
I was new to cardiology, specifically Electrophysiology (EP), so there was a huge learning curve. Thankfully, I work with some wonderful EP physicians who are excellent teachers. I continue to learn new things every single day.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What is your favorite local gem?
I enjoy reading, being outdoors, spending time with family and friends, and traveling. Portside is one of my favorite local restaurants – I love the breadsticks! I also love our beaches.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS – Marquette?
My favorite part of my job is reassuring and guiding patients while explaining in a way they can understand. I also love how my coworkers feel like family. The whole office works together as a team – from the front desk staff to the pacemaker clinic, to the nursing staff. I am proud to work with such a great group of people!
