Marie Lehto, Registered Nurse for UP Health System – Bell.
What is your title and role at UPHS-Bell?
I am a Registered Nurse for the Emergency Department at UP Health System – Bell.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I grew up learning from my parents who dedicated their careers in healthcare caring for our community, and I also wanted to make an impact on our community.
What’s a typical day like for you? What is it like working in this field?
There is no typical day. One of the thing I love most about working in the Emergency Department is being ready for new challenges that each day may bring.
How long have you been employed here? Have you always been in the same position?
I have been employed in this current position for six years and I love the team atmosphere.
What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
The nursing culture continues to change and evolve. Nurses have had to pick up a lot more shifts than usual, and it states that these nurses are willing to lend an extra hand and help out hospital out in whatever way they can.
What are some of your interests outside of work? What/where is your favorite local gem?
I love to garden and spend as much time outdoors with my kids and dogs. A local favorite of our is spending time at Anderson Lake, it is beautiful.
What do you enjoy most about working at UPHS-Bell?
I am very thankful for the great team of people I get to work with each and everyday.
